Insurance Placement Solutions (IPS) has an immediate opening for a Workers’ Compensation Claims Supervisor with our client in California. This is a direct-hire, hybrid opportunity based out of Glendale, CA. In this leadership role, you’ll oversee a team of lost time claims professionals handling complex workers’ compensation claims while ensuring compliance with California Labor Code requirements, company standards, and client service expectations.

Workers’ Compensation Claims Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of workers’ compensation claims examiners and claims assistants
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to claims staff
  • Monitor claim handling activities to ensure compliance with California workers’ compensation statutes, company guidelines, and client requirements
  • Review and approve reserves, settlements, and claim strategies within assigned authority levels
  • Maintain oversight of complex claim files, including litigated claims, subrogation matters, SIU referrals, delayed or denied benefits, and coverage issues
  • Conduct file audits to evaluate claim quality, accuracy, and adherence to best practices
  • Assist with performance evaluations and corrective action plans when necessary
  • Ensure timely reporting and communication with internal leadership and clients
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork across departments and claims units
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance on complex claim handling issues

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of direct leadership experience overseeing lost time workers’ compensation examiners
  • 5+ years of progressive technical workers’ compensation claims experience
  • Strong knowledge of California Labor Code and workers’ compensation claims handling practices
  • Experience handling complex and litigated claims, including reserve analysis and settlement negotiations
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team management abilities
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage personnel issues, workflows, and performance expectations

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
