Senior Casualty Claims Specialist

Insurance Placement Solutions (IPS) has an immediate opening for a Senior Casualty Claims Specialist with our client in Chicago, IL. This is a direct-hire opportunity for an experienced commercial casualty claims professional with a strong background handling complex, high-exposure litigated claims.

In this role, you’ll manage a portfolio of complex commercial casualty claims with an emphasis on product liability, construction defect, and construction liability. You’ll be responsible for claims investigation, coverage analysis, litigation management, negotiation, and resolution while working closely with outside counsel, brokers, clients, and other business partners.

Senior Casualty Claims Specialist Responsibilities

• Manage an inventory of complex, high-value commercial casualty claims and litigation
• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve complex commercial casualty claims
• Handle product liability, construction defect, and construction liability claims
• Independently develop strategies for resolving significant exposure claims
• Participate in or lead litigation teams on complex claims as appropriate
• Direct and manage outside counsel and other external service providers
• Monitor legal expenses, litigation strategy, and outside counsel work product
• Analyze coverage under standard and manuscript policy forms
• Identify and evaluate complex coverage issues
• Prepare coverage position letters when necessary
• Establish reserves and authorize claim payments within designated authority
• Prepare timely and accurate large-loss reports for management
• Keep management informed of significant developments, exposures, and claim strategies
• Participate in mediations and formal or informal settlement negotiations
• Analyze medical records, expert reports, investigative reports, and other claim documentation
• Identify and pursue potential subrogation and recovery opportunities
• Develop relationships with clients, brokers, internal colleagues, and other business partners
• Share claims trends and lessons learned with other departments
• Attend mediations, client meetings, court proceedings, or arbitrations as necessary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant commercial casualty claims experience
• Litigation and insurance claims management experience
• Product liability claims experience
• Construction liability claims experience
• Construction defect claims experience
• Experience handling complex, high-exposure commercial casualty claims
• Advanced knowledge of claims investigation, coverage analysis, correspondence, and negotiation
• Experience managing outside counsel and litigation strategy
• Experience analyzing standard and manuscript policy forms and identifying coverage issues
• Experience analyzing medical records, expert reports, and investigative documentation
• Experience negotiating settlements and participating in mediations
• Ability to obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses and continuing education requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic claim files, and database systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience independently managing severe or significant exposure casualty claims
• Experience handling multiple commercial casualty lines, including product liability, construction liability, and construction defect
• Experience with complex coverage matters and preparing coverage position letters
• Multi-jurisdictional commercial casualty claims experience
