Underwriting Specialist

Insurance Placement Solutions (IPS) has an immediate opening for an Underwriting Specialist with our client, a leading commercial property and casualty insurance carrier, in the Atlanta, Georgia area. This is a hybrid position offering a balance of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. In this role, you’ll underwrite and manage a portfolio of new and renewal business, focusing on complex middle market accounts while supporting agency relationships and driving profitable growth.

Underwriting Specialist Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of new and renewal commercial accounts, including large and complex risks
• Evaluate exposures and apply underwriting judgment to determine pricing, terms, and conditions
• Assess new business opportunities to align with profitability goals and underwriting guidelines
• Build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners to support negotiations and drive account retention
• Provide high-level service to agency partners while meeting established service standards
• Negotiate terms and pricing while maintaining strong business relationships
• Achieve underwriting performance metrics for both new and renewal business
• Maintain accurate and thorough underwriting documentation in accordance with company guidelines
• Utilize underwriting tools and data to support risk assessment and decision-making

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in middle market accounts
• Experience in underwriting complex risks and managing a book of business
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and risk assessment skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting systems
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Industry designations such as CIC, CPCU, or AU
