Workers Compensation Claims Supervisor | CA experience

Insurance Placement Solutions (IPS) has an immediate opening for a Workers’ Compensation Claims Supervisor with our client in Orange, California. This is a direct hire hybrid opportunity requiring three days per week in the office. In this leadership role, you’ll oversee a team of lost time claims professionals while ensuring compliance with California workers’ compensation regulations, company standards, and client service expectations.

Workers’ Compensation Claims Supervisor Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of workers’ compensation claims examiners and claims assistants
• Monitor claim handling activities to ensure compliance with California Labor Code, client requirements, and company best practices
• Review and approve reserves, settlements, and claim strategies within assigned authority
• Provide technical guidance on complex, litigated workers’ compensation claims
• Conduct performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and ongoing employee development
• Perform regular file audits to ensure quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
• Maintain oversight of complex claims, including high-reserve files, subrogation matters, SIU referrals, delayed or denied benefits, and coverage issues
• Assist with staffing, workload management, and succession planning within the claims unit
• Partner with claims leadership to improve operational efficiency and claim outcomes
• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented work environment while promoting accountability and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct leadership experience supervising lost time workers’ compensation claims examiners
• 5+ years of progressive technical workers’ compensation claims experience
• Strong knowledge of California workers’ compensation statutes and Labor Code
• Experience handling complex and litigated workers’ compensation claims
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentoring, and employee development skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
